We sell white seabass (Atractoscin nobilis) and corvina seabass (Cynoscion parvipinnis). White seabass average 10 to 30 pounds, while corvina seabass average 3 to 8 pounds. They are both caught by hook and line and by net. They are available year round, but mostly during the spring and summer on the Pacific coast of California and Baja California, as well as the Sea of Cortez.
Seabass is a moist, tender yet meaty fish with a mild flavor. It’s a great choice for pan searing, broiling or grilling. Fillets are skin off.
Sustainability
Most white seabass are caught by hook and line, and the populations have increased dramatically since being overfished in the 1960s and 1970s. Currently this fish is not overfished. It is considered a “Best Choice” by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which monitors the health of fisheries worldwide.
