Also known as “unagi sauce,” this sweet-savory classic Japanese finishing sauce combines the flavors of Kikkoman soy sauce and sweet rice wine to give any dish a rich, distinctive taste. Think of it like a super thick, sweeter teriyaki. In sushi bars it is commonly lacquered onto cooked eel or drizzled atop caterpillar rolls and other sushi, but it can also be used as a glaze or condiment for a range of Asian-inspired cuisine. Rich in texture and color, with wonderful umami, it’s ready to use right from the bottle! In addition to sushi, we particularly love it on grilled salmon and yellowtail, mixed into stir fry, or even just drizzled over rice! Note: The term unagi is the Japanese translation for eel.
