Over the last decade Catalina Offshore Products has joined California’s renowned food artisans in showcasing the state’s finest culinary ingredients at the annual Celebrate the Craft. This year was no different as San Diego’s favorite fish purveyor not only displayed a bounty of fresh fish, but provided sushi-grade seafood for a variety of dishes prepared by the participating chefs and restaurants.

Throughout the event, which this year was held Oct. 6 at the beautiful Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, visitors strolled and sampled premier wines and brews, small plates and desserts. Each dish was created with natural ingredients and careful craftsmanship. Amid a park-like setting overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the scene was quintessential California.

As the festivities wound down, a lucky few came to Catalina’s table inspired by recipes they’d sampled and walked away with whole fish, crab claws and uni to enjoy at home. Owner Dave Rudie masterminded the giveaway as he answered questions about the displayed sea bass, groupers, crab, green and purple sea urchins and more. He was overhead saying, “This is much more fun than packing it all up to bring back to the plant!” That generosity also extends at Catalina’s fish market where the craft of seafood is celebrated year round. Walk in on any given day and you just might find a guest chef or Tommy the Fishmonger cooking up the freshest catch and offering tastes and recipes!
