Our MAR AZUL Baja Rock Crab Meat is the same fully pasteurized Baja rock crab meat you’ve enjoyed from Catalina Offshore Products, just with a new brand name. The 16 oz tubs are packed 60/40 with ready-to-eat pasteurized claw and shredded body meat. The pasteurization of this product ensures safe handling and long shelf life. Product keeps for 12 months sealed, unopened and refrigerated. Once opened, crab meat will stay fresh in the refrigerator for six days.
Baja rock crabs (Cancer productus; Cancer antennarius; Cancer anthonyi) are trap harvested off the Baja California coastline less than 200 miles south of San Diego. Traditional artisan fishermen beach-launch their small, open “Panga” boats to pull traps daily. There is no unintended bycatch with this minimally invasive fishery.
Also referred to in Southern California as Pacific stone crab, Baja rock crab yields a sweet, delicious meat similar to Florida stone crab. The taste of this pasteurized crab meat is so good that many San Diego restaurants use it for salads, crab cakes, sandwiches, dips, bisques, pastas, omelets and more.
